The crew of the USS Yorktown seems to be, for the most part, well. Stout was demoted to Ensign, due to his lack of judgement and hitting another officer. I feel this punishment may be rather harsh. I felt Stout has been a good crew member. His lack of understanding other cultures is poor, but perhaps that could be taught to him. I'm not sure how he will take a recommendation from myself, but I think I will recommend him spend some time studying other cultures, so that he might avoid a situation like what has happened.
We had a successful test of trans warp drive, but ended up very far from our destination point. We made first contact with a race which lived underwater, very much like fish. At first they seemed to want us off, not knowing our intentions. After we made these intentions clear, and that we meant no harm, we had a good contact. Captain Redding, Commander Ivos, Ensign Stout, Dr. Partha, and several science officers seemed to enjoy this trip. We gathered much detail about the planet (flora and fauna). The new race seemed rather interested in diplomatic relations and Captain Redding facilitated this possibility. I was quite pleased how Ensign Stout fared on this trip. He was the first to make actual contact and performed his duties extremely well. I must include information about Stout and his actions in my report to the Captain.
